Today, the first Test of a three-match series between Australia and South Africa gets under way at The Gabba in Brisbane. Here's a full preview of the series with a look at the key players and talking points to consider as these two big guns begin another undoubtedly epic battle.
It's the first Test cricket match since the end of September, when India beat New Zealand. After a glut of Twenty20 cricket, during which West Indies won the 2012 ICC World Twenty20, we're back in Test match mode for some time. Indeed, there are four Test series getting going shortly (home team listed first):
- Australia v South Africa
- Bangladesh v West Indies
- India v England
- Sri Lanka v New Zealand
What this means is that the next day without at least one scheduled Test cricket match is December 10th, a staggering 32 days away. I happen to like Test cricket quite a lot and am therefore rather excited.
If you don't like Test cricket, however... well, you might want to avoid the back pages of newspapers for a few weeks.
